The planned transformation of the envelope of the former Television Centre tower goes far beyond simple works to “change the façade”. Here the actual size, scale and massing is modified. Indeed, the verticality of the Geneva headquarters has become more eye catching by greatly reinforcing its sculptural and monolithic character. The original facades, featuring a very close-knit network of posts, are replaced by an extremely smooth skin, whose motif, alternating large panels of glass and small panels of polished stainless steel, is staggered from one floor to the next, emphasising the idea of a pure prism. To complete the transformation of this emblematic building part of the urban landscape of Calvin’s city, the last four floors have been turned upside down to become a sort of “giant eye” or immense screen emerging from the tower, thus giving it a new volume. The complete redesign of the silhouette thus reinforces its emergence on the town’s skyline. Inside the seventeen storeys, double or triple floors have been installed to offer spaces for meetings between the company’s various departments. They are sometimes used as recording studios and enliven the composition of the façade. The building is noticeable at night with its coloured lights that enhance these large empty spaces.
