The new “Coupe-Gordon-Bennett” district replaces old warehouses facing Le Lignon. It stems from a town planning scheme that provides for a central pedestrian walkway around which are scattered five courtyard buildings, whose height gradually drops as they get nearer to the existing villas to the southeast. Great architectural consistency was needed to protect the district’s image. It is in this context that building “E”, called “Joran”, located in the southeast, is the least high, that is to say on four floors, due to the nearby villas. The forty-four dwellings in the building are double aspect or corner apartments. The apartments vary in size from three to six rooms. For a courtyard building, the question of the treatment of “incoming angles” is of paramount importance. In this case it is solved by the positioning of the staircase which protects each apartment from prying eyes. The buildings each have a large linear balcony surrounding the external envelope which is green. They each also have a courtyard, by which the dwellings can be reached, with differentiated wall expressions: for example one has small windows or loggias placed more freely in a white façade, with frames recalling the outside color. The landscaping is also different for each
