The “Nouveau Prieuré” complex is the first social experience in Geneva which contains an end-of-life residence combined with a day nursery and student housings. To meet the requirements of this ambitious scheme, the project is based on the construction of three separate buildings surrounding a large circular square - in the form of a patio - around which flows a generous circulation area. The latter gives access to each of the communal parts of the scheme, such as the cafeteria, the administrative offices, the day nursery and the students’ living area, thus encouraging communication, mixing and social life. The typology of the residential part for seniors adopts an architectural concept that is also original, with a principle of shared apartment in which eight people live together around a large living room. The quality of the dwelling is reinforced by the fact that the service spaces are placed at the back and by the natural light flowing in from a glass courtyard in the centre and laterally by a large south-facing loggia. As regards the architectural design of the facades, these are in four different colours of precast concrete which catches the eye, and very slight inflexions of emerging volumes that allows perception to be enriched according to the standpoint. The general composition is embellished by the presence of closed gardens, the largest of which acts as the entrance.
