The Chapelle-les-Sciers district comprises eighteen buildings on eight hectares of land, previously fields or allotments. The urban project consists in erecting rectangular buildings of seven or eight storeys, freely positioned, once on the large side and once on the small side. In the centre, the large communal underground car park is located outside the buildings’ foundations. The entire housing scheme is controlled financially by the State, since located in a development zone. The district ends in the southwest with three buildings where the slope is the greatest at the widest point of the plot, facing the school. The volumes are rather complex, cut up by the staggered envelope plane which creates terraces for the upper storey apartments. The façade has alternating precast concrete panels and vertical French-style windows, along with pivoting metal shutters. The buildings’ entrance areas are large, designed with double height, since benefiting from the land’s natural slope. Here the staircase is double, to comply with safety regulations. It takes you up to the apartments and becomes narrower as you go up. The smallest apartments are in the first floors and the largest are on the upper floors but all have the living room in the corner.
